AAWA Advocates Support for ESHB 1837 and Other Improvements to Intercity Passenger Rail
All Aboard Washington (AAWA) supports ESHB 1837, which proposes intercity passenger rail improvements. AAWA recommends that the final version of ESHB 1837 include:
- Faster travel times for Amtrak Cascades passenger rail service between Portland, OR, Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC.
- More frequent Cascades service as suggested in WSDOT’s preliminary Service Development Plan (SDP) for Amtrak Cascades service.
- Restoration of passenger rail service to central and eastern Washington communities which lost service in 1981.
In addition, we advocate for setting aside funding for Washington state’s portion of the cost to complete a Service Development Plan for restoration of passenger rail service from Chicago to Seattle via southern Montana - Spokane - Tri Cities - Yakima - Ellensburg - Auburn - Seattle.
Please contact your Washington State Legislature members, and let them know that passenger rail is important to you and your neighbors.
Changes at Amtrak
Stephen Gardner is stepping down as CEO of Amtrak. AAWA continues to support Amtrak’s work toward a robust, national rail network.
